Hermann, Torres Earn Conference Honors

CENTERVILLE ---  The Indian Hills Community College baseball team had the Athlete of the Week and the Scholar Athlete of the Week for their performances last week when the Falcons went 7-2 overall and improved their conference record to 6-2.
Sophomore Tyler Hermann, from Eau Claire, Wis., was named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week after hitting a torrid .469 (15-for-32) for the week with nine runs scored and 17 RBIs.  Hermann drove in at least one run in all nine games he played, while slugging three doubles, a triple and his first home run of the spring.
For the season, the former Wisconsin high school player of the year is hitting .370 with 24 RBIs.
Christian Torres, a freshman lefthanded pitcher from Canovanas, Puerto Rico, had two outstanding starts to earn Scholar Athlete of the Week honors.  Torres went the first six frames in a combined seven-inning no-hitter against Southwestern CC in a 13-0 Falcons win.  He walked three and struck out four.
Torres followed up his hitless performance by allowing just one hit and fanning eight in a complete-game conference win against Marshalltown CC on Sunday.
He is off to a great start in his initial season of college baseball with a 4-0 record, a 1.26 ERA and 27 Ks in 28 2/3 innings.
Torres is also an honor roll student at IHCC with a 3.7 grade point average.
