Booker, Stalzer Win League Awards

CENTERVILLE --- For the second time this spring, the Indian Hills baseball team has swept the weekly honors handed out by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.
Freshman Joel Booker was named the Athlete of the Week and sophomore pitcher Jake Stalzer earned the Scholar-Athlete of the Week award for their play last week when the Falcons won five of six games.
Booker, from Columbus, N.C., hit .500 for the week with eight hits, three runs scored, three doubles and eight RBIs.
The speedy outfielder is enjoying an outstanding season, hitting .386 with a homer and 22 RBIs while stealing seven bases.
Stalzer had a sparkling pitching performance against Muscatine CC in a conference contest on Saturday.  The Albia High School grad went 6 2/3 innings, allowing only three hits and two walks with four strikeouts and he got credit for IHCC’s 1-0 win.
It was Stalzer’s third victory of the season; he is 3-2 with a 3.29 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 41 innings pitched.
Stalzer, headed to Elon University in North Carolina after graduating this spring from Indian Hills, has a 3.62 grade point average on his way to an associate of arts degree from IHCC.
