Falcons Divide Two Close Ones

Muscatine, IA -- Indian Hills and Muscatine CC will play four conference games on the Cardinals' home field later in the season. On Thursday, the two teams split a pair of one-run decisions that do not count in the league standings.

The hosts scored a single run in each of the final three innings to pull out a 6-5 win in game one. The Falcons evened the tables by getting three runs in the top of the 7th to win the second game.

Jordan Patton drew a leadoff walk in the deciding rally in the second game. Coleton Wilson followed with a single. One run scored on a fielder's choice and the tying run came home when Rylan Harding was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Guillermo Cruz then drew a walk to force home the game-winning run.

In the bottom of the 7th, Muscatine had the potential tying and winning runs on base, but Cashtyn DeLeeuw got a strikeout to nail down the victory, his first for the Falcons.

IHCC's Justin Cook had tied the game with a solo homer in the 5th.

A two-run single in the bottom of the 6th had given MCC the lead. But the Falcons' seventh-inning rally enabled them to go home with a split.

Muscatine battled back after trailing 5-0 in the first game. Indian Hills had built the lead with a couple of runs in the 2nd and a three-run homer by Miguel Sanchez in the 4th.

Starter Tyler Sparger left with a one-run lead after five innings, but the bullpen couldn't hold it. Caleb Phillips allowed the tying run in the 6th and the winning tally came against Shaun Dean in the 7th.

Carter Sherban had two hits and two RBIs for the Falcons.

Indian Hills goes to Creston to start conference play with four games against Southwestern CC this weekend.
