Falcons Split With Ellsworth

Centerville -- In a doubleheader that was delayed a day by rain, Indian Hills and Ellsworth divided a pair of games at Pat Daugherty Field on Wednesday. The Falcons used strong pitching by Cashtyn DeLeeuw and Delvin Perez to take game one, 5-1, but the Panthers' pitching was equally as good in the second game with Ellsworth winning, 4-2. The loss ended a seven-game IHCC winning streak.

Indian Hills opened the scoring in the first game with three runs in the 3rd and tacked on two more in the 4th. Francisco Perez, Miguel Sanchez and Coleton Wilson had consecutive run-scoring hits in the 3rd. Matt Cook doubled home a run and Mitch Osnowitz followed with a sacrifice fly the next inning.

Meanwhile, DeLeeuw had "a very good outing," according to coach Cam Walker, "hitting his spots well and controlling the Ellsworth offense for five innings." DeLeeuw didn't walk anyone and struck out seven, allowing only four hits.

Perez gave up only two hits and an unearned run in two innings of relief.

Yuliecer Arias, Jordan Patton and Sanchez all had two-hit games and Arias scored twice.

The Falcons' offense was quiet in the nightcap. They were held to eight hits which included a solo homer by Arias and an RBI-double by Kelvin Brito. Brito added another double and Patton had two hits, but IHCC was limited to single runs in the 4th and 6th innings.

Dylan Badura started and took the loss for the Falcons. In four innings, he allowed five hits and all four ECC runs. David Kroger provided three innings of scoreless relief.

The split leaves the Falcons with a 17-19 record. They go to Fort Dodge to play a doubleheader with Iowa Central on Thursday.
