IHCC Loses Close One to Cochise

Phoenix, AZ -- An unearned run scored in the bottom of the 7th inning proved to be the difference as Cochise CC edged Indian Hills 9-8 on Thursday.

The Falcons staged a late rally, scoring three runs in the 8th inning, but they came up a run short in their battle with the Apaches.

A two-run 1st inning and a three-run 3rd allowed IHCC to jump out to an early lead.  Adam Deneke, tHe Falcons' cleanup hitter, singled home a run in the opening inning and had a two-run double in the 3rd.  Deneke added a run-scoring double in the 8th.

Indian Hills outhit Cochise 17-9 but hurt themselves with six errors.  Four of the Apaches' nine runs were unearned.

Junior Santos, Tyler Hermann and Kevin Cicali joined Deneke with three-hit games for IHCC. 

Edgar Lebron tripled and scored in the 8th.

The Falcons stranded 10 runners and left the bases loaded in the 7th. 

Starter Sam Ross was tagged with the loss for IHCC.  He went 4 1/3 innings and allowed eight hits and six runs, two of them unearned.  Jose Marin threw 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief, but walked four batters, two of whom scored.  Logan Mallek finished up with an inning and a third, giving up one hit and an unearned run.

Indian Hills has games with Pro Train and Chandler-Gilbert scheduled for Friday.
