Cardinals Sign Former Falcon Vazquez

Centerville -- The St. Louis Cardinals have made a deal to bolster the depth on the left side of their infield by signing veteran Ramon Vazquez. Vazquez, a former Indian Hills baseball player, received a Minor League deal with a non-roster invitation to Spring Training with the Cards.

Vazquez is expected to battle Tyler Greene and Daniel Descalso for a utility infield job.

The 34-year old Vazquez last played in the Major Leagues in 2009 when he batted .230 with a .335 on-base percentage and a .279 slugging percentage in 239 plate appearances with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was released by the Pirates at the end of spring training in 2010.

Vazquez has a .254 lifetime batting average in the majors while playing in nearly 700 games with the Mariners, Padres, Red Sox, Indians, Rangers and Pirates.
