Season Ends in Loss to Marshalltown

Muscatine, IA -- Indian Hills couldn't duplicate its earlier success against Marshalltown CC and saw its season come to an end on Monday in the Region 11 postseason tournament.

The Tigers (29-22), who had lost 5-1 to IHCC in Friday's opening round, avenged that loss with a 9-3 thumping of the Falcons in an elimination game in the tourney. Marshalltown then lost to Iowa Western, 9-1, in the following game as Iowa Western won its 7th straight Region 11 title.

Marshalltown ran off to a 5-0 lead against Indian Hills' starter Adam Peters. They scored four times in the 3rd and added a single run in the 4th.

MCC scored at least one run in the 3rd-through-6th innings and had at least one hit in every inning but the 2nd. They had 16 hits in all.

Meanwhile, Indian Hills (29-28) had trouble solving MCC freshman pitcher Blake Brommel who allowed only three hits in the first eight innings. Brommel gave up back-to-back singles to Adam Coleman and Mitch Osnowitz to start the 9th and was lifted in favor of Christopher Stout, who got the final three outs.

IHCC had as many hits, three, in the 9th as they had in the previous eight frames. And no one in the lineup had more than one hit for Indian Hills.

Five different players had multiple-hit games for MCC with Miko Bernstine, Ben Lott, Bryce Manning and Richard Swan getting three hits each.

Peters was charged with five runs in taking the loss for the Falcons. Reliever Kevin Day gave up four runs in 3 1/3 innings.
